Embracing Winter: The Magick of Seasonal Cycles
Can you believe it’s already 2025? Another year, another opportunity to witness the ever-changing beauty of the seasons.
White silence transforms into a colorful awakening. After the abundance of summer, when nature wears her lush green dresses, the forests become a stunning canvas of red, gold, and orange - only to be wrapped once again in a blanket of white snow.
There’s a certain magick in this predictability - a comforting reassurance that nature is always our home.
Yet, even though the seasons seem to repeat endlessly, each year and each season holds its own unique surprises and endless new possibilities:
Flowers might sprout in places we've never seen them before.
Birds might build their nests in unexpected corners of our garden.
We might stumble upon new paths in snow-covered forests we’ve walked past a hundred times before.
Right now, we are in the heart of winter in the northern hemisphere. While January 1st marks the start of the year in modern calendars, the astrological new year doesn’t begin until the spring equinox in March, when the Sun enters Aries - the first sign of the zodiac. And everywhere you turn right now, people are talking about their New Year’s resolutions - their plans to change, to be more active, to leap into action on January 1st. But the truth is, we’re not in a time for new beginnings - yet. This isn’t the season for activity or growth. Everything in nature is still asleep: the trees, the animals. We’re in a time of rest and stillness - a sacred pause. A time to prepare, reflect, and gather our energy for the fresh start that’s yet to come.
This year, I’ve also decided to step into the new year with a different approach. The astrology for 2025 is interesting - all the planets are changing signs, shifting from earth and water signs into fire and air signs. Needless to say, this points to a year filled with significant change. Rather than trying to manifest something I think I need, I’ve decided to simply flow with these changes as they arise. Over the past few years, I’ve sown plenty of seeds, and I trust that they will sprout when the time is right. Instead of trying to force things into my life, I’m choosing to make space for them—to create room so they can naturally flow into my world. This approach feels new and unfamiliar to me, but it feels right. I want to start embracing the magick of the seasonal cycles and universal energies much more in my witchcraft practice and daily life.
Is this something that resonates with you? How are you going to approach this year?
